Friday is the last day of school until Monday January 3rd. I hope you enjoy the extra time with your child and family.
I have couple of gems to send you on your holiday way! The following activities will enrich your vacation time! They are from One Hundred Child Development Tips by Heather Pedersen, Ph.D
#42. Teach your child about numbers. (a) Count out loud during your activities; (b) Frequently use numbers in your observations and conversations; and (c) play sorting games. Regarding the latter, a simple exercise is to fill a big bowl with an item like buttons, beads or shells and then have your child sort them by size, shape or color.
#43 Introduce your child to language sounds by playing rhyming and I-spy games (e.g., "I spy with my little eye something that begins with the sound "buh.") You and your child should both use phonetic sounds to describe letters until your child is older and has a good grasp of the alphabet. This helps to eliminate confusion in the learning process.
Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

The Holidays Are Here!!!
I have a classroom full of very excited children!
Please note that next week is our last week of school before the winter break. Classes will resume January 3rd.
This Friday, 12/17, is the children's holiday party!!!!!! You will be seeing an email from Mrs. Chacon regarding a few things that we need for the festivities. I believe we need 26 Styrofoam cups, a large can of cocoa mix, and 2 volunteers to send 26 cookies to class that morning.
Ms. Lipp and myself will be hosting a special day for the children! We are looking forward to it.

We did it!!!!
The field trip was awesome! The students really enjoyed themselves! A special thank you to Blaze's mom, for organizing the parent volunteers and also to our volunteers for helping the class get to and from the Symphony safely. I am so lucky that I had so many parents wanting to come and help! I was only given 6 tickets for seats at the show, so I could only take the first 6 that asked to come. We go every year, so I will try to get those of you who missed out this time a chance to go with us next time!
We are all getting in the holiday spirit in room 406. The children made a Menorah out of toilet paper tubes and we have been "lighting" a new candle for each day of Hanukkah. (We use tissue paper for the flame of the candle) They LOVE to practice Christmas carols and are learning to make paper snowflakes and tree ornaments. What an exciting time of year!
SOON: Holiday Program-I will have details soon for you! I believe it will be at Herrera on Dec. 15th.
As always- Come to me with any and all questions/concerns you may have! I am here to help!

November 9
The Fall Festival was so much fun! I had hoped to see many more of you there! For those of you who took the time to have a little fun-Thank you! And a special thank you to the Chacon's, Rojas's, and Nieto's for all of the help with our class booth!!!!!
Right now we are studying North America, Pilgrims, Native Americans, Pioneers, and the parts of the turkey. Also, we have been practicing some Thanksgiving songs and poems.
REMEMBER:
If would like to participate in the school breakfast, you must be in the line BY 8:00. The class leaves the cafeteria at 8:10 and breakfast is over at 8:10. The reason for this is to get the cafeteria ready for the Shaw students. Please respect the timeline for breakfast and our classroom start time.
No School Thurs. and Fri. for Veteran's Day
No School for Thanksgiving 11/22-11/26
Food for thought:
Do you have clear boundaries and rules for you child or does your child run your house? The success we have here in the classroom is based in the clear boundaries and expectations I have for the children. The rules don't change and neither do the consequences. Need help at home? I would love to help you set some routines to help your child succeed in your house! You have the power to stop the battles with your child. If you need help, please ask!
Have a wonderful week!

October 28th
United Nation's Day was so much fun! The children had a blast! Thanks to all of you who took the time to cook, dress your child in a costume and come to the show! I really pleases me to see how many families were able to come. It was a little busy trying to feed a full-house, so next year I will try a different strategy for the lunch, but it was still great!
One of the reasons we choose to celebrate United Nation's Day with the children is to reinforce how wonderful our diverse community is! Please talk to your child about it too! Teaching tolerance and acceptance at this young age can follow them them through life.
Scholastic Book orders are due on Monday 11/1! Help our class get some new books by placing an order for some books for your family!
Our school Fall Festival is Saturday November 6th at the Main Campus from 2-5PM. I hope to see you there. I will be bringing my daughter to have some fun with the students!

United Nation's Day
I am sure you have all seen the flier regarding our United Nation's Day celebration! It it this Wednesday the 27th. The parade begins at 10:45 AM. Dress your child in traditional costume of their heritage and bring a dish to share for our lunch! The children are all so excited to perform for you and have been practicing! I look forward to my first U.N. Day celebration with Faith North Montessori.
Quick note: Many of the children are preparing to begin handwriting. Give your child a head-start by correcting how they hold their spoon and fork at meal times. We hold our utensils in the same manner as we hold a pencil.
Questions or comments for me? Please ask!

October Post
So much to share! So far the children and I have discussed Volcanoes, Lakes and Islands, Land Water & Air, magnets, compass and the parts of the pumpkin. Next up is North America, the parts of the tree and the parts of the mammal. We are also practicing greeting with a handshake-they LOVE to practice it!
Please EMPTY your child's backpack EVERYDAY! I have been seeing lots of papers come back to school that needed to be home.
Sound, Word or Number books: You all have seen them, but what can you do with them? Practice! Let your child give you a lesson!
Information on our United Nation's Day Celebration is on the way! October 27th is the big day.
Coming soon is our Fall Festival!
Questions for Ms. Meg? Our classroom telephone number has changed. It is now 602-523-8757. Email is
